- In 5th grade, students will read a variety of complex texts including literature, informational texts, and poetry.
- They will apply reading strategies to build comprehension.
- We will experience texts as a whole group, students will receive instruction in small groups, and they will read independently.
- Students will demonstrate their reading comprehension through discussion of texts, writing in response to reading, and reading assessments.
- Students will be encouraged to read widely and read a lot with the 40-Book Challenge.
- Texts will include novels, articles, short passages, primary sources, leveled texts, and textbooks.
