- In our classroom, there will be times when we all do the same thing, some do different things, we all work together, students work alone, students work with a partner or group, students choose for themselves, or the teacher chooses for them. Our differentiated classroom is designed so all may learn.
- We have five classroom rules. These rules were determined by the students during the first week of school.
- Be respectful.
- Be responsible.
- Be kind.
- Work hard.
- Make good choices.
- To make our classroom run more smoothly and give students ownership, we have Class Crews. A class crew is a group of students responsible for certain classroom jobs/responsibilities. At the start of the year, all crew jobs are explained. Students make a request to be on a crew that interests them. Two or three students will take care of crew responsibilities for two months. Having several crew members allows for help remembering to do jobs and makes sure a crew member is available to do a job even if someone is absent. Staying on the same crew for two months instead of switching more often allows crew members to get better at their job; switching too often can get confusing as to who is on each crew. Our Class Crews are:
- Lunch Crew
- Makes sure all students have made their lunch choice.
- Submits lunch count.
- Cleans the tables at the end of lunch time.
- Cleaning Crew
- Uses the broom and dustpan to clean up the floor (pencil shavings, paper clippings, etc.)
- Periodically dusts with the dusters.
- Wipes off tables and desks after messy learning activities.
- Uses Clorox wipes on door handles, keyboards, mice, etc.
