Our new topic is capacity. We filled up containers to different volumes and described it using words such as nearly empty, half full, a quarter full. We then used a non-standard unit (a bottle top) to see how many it took to fill up the container. Some of the bottles took over 100 bottle tops full of water!
In our multiplication and division topic, we have been learning about arrays and how to arrange cubes into rows and columns.
We have been thinking about place value with numbers up to 100.
We have been comparing objects and ordering them from heaviest to lightest. We used playdoh to help us to weigh the different objects.
Our new topic is measuring. Today we were measuring using our hands and our feet!
This week in maths, we have been looking at halves and quarters of shapes and quantities. Today, the children have been amazing and sharing an amount into 4 equal parts. They have shared the amounts into part (part part part!) whole models and been able to verbally explain what the quarter of that number is.
We have been practising near doubles by playing a board game.
We have been consolidating our learning with some fun activities including 2D shapes, doubling, writing numbers and counting.
We were learning how to halve numbers using cubes. We then played a doubling and halving board game. A good lesson in winning and losing too!
Today we have been ordering 3 numbers to 20 and then we have been comparing them, using the greater than and less than signs.
This term we have started our Maths sessions by looking at numbers within 20. We have partitioned teen numbers by the ten and worked out how many ones are needed for each teen number. We have then worked with our new Kagan teams to order the numbers to 20 out of sequence, working out where to position each number. The children have done amazingly working out which numbers come before, after and between different numbers.
We have been learning about algorithms and how to give directions. The children drew paths on the playground and gave each other instructions to follow the path, using forwards, backwards, left and right.
For our morning work this morning, the children had to complete the repeating patterns which were on the board. They did amazing!
Today in Maths, the children have been describing and identifying features of 2D shapes. They had to work together to classifying them into groups. Below, you can see that the children have classified shapes by vertices and sides.
In Maths we have been sorting 3D shapes. We looked at the different properties and then sorted them into 2 circles. On the carpet, we sorted them into cuboids and not a cuboid. In our books, we sorted them into has vertices and does not have vertices.
Today we started our new topic on 3D shapes. The children enjoyed finding 3D shapes around the classroom and making towers out of 3D shapes.
We played a game with jars of sweets. The jars had 4 sweets in. We had to roll the dice and add that number on to 4 to see if we would win the sweetie jar. The children played really nicely together, taking it in turns.
We have been using part-part-whole to add two numbers together. We used our cubes to help us then wrote number sentences on our whiteboards.
In maths, we have been working with numbers to 10. We've been exploring how to half numbers.
We have recapped on number bonds to 7,9 and 10 and looked at double numbers to 10.
We've been looking at different ways to make 5.
