We have learnt about two poems this term, Hide and Seek and This Little Pencil. Take a look at our Canva below... the last slide you'll get to see us perform!
Seen as the children LOVED world book day learning about The Christmasaurus and Tom Fletcher, we thought we would extend our learning into this week too. Today, the children got creative and made their very own Christmasaurus for them to write about tomorrow. We even said, we would send these designs to Tom himself to be inspired to use them for future books if he wished! Don't they look amazing!!
We have been looking at Instructions this week in English. We learnt the key features of instructions and explored a variety of instructions in our talk tasks. We then had to make our own instructions on how to make a pancake. The children have done some amazing command sentences (with bossy verbs!) ready for them to follow next week when they make their own! Here's when Miss Harrison made pancakes following a recipe.
We have been looking at fantasy stories and describing characters and settings which might be in these types of stories. We worked as a team to use adjectives to describe these characters and then 'pinched' ideas from other teams in a 'Cops and Robbers' style game! The children then wrote their own sentences to describe these characters in their books.
We are reading the story of Stickman. We have been thinking about our favourite parts of the story and describing Stickman. We made our own Stickmen and did some role play with them to act out the different parts of the story.
This week we have studied the lullaby, River Lullaby by Matt Goodfellow. We have listen to the lullaby being read by Matt himself, understood why we have poems and lullabies, and looked at imagery of what it could look like. The children have drew beautiful pictures of what they thought the lullaby would be about and I thought I would share some of them.
Today we have looked at where Emily Brown and Stanley went on their adventures. They went to the Sahara Desert, Outer Space, The Great Barrier Reef and The Amazon Rainforest. We watched video's and looked at imagery of these places in more depth to support us in acting out certain places. The class had time to practice their scenes before we had to guess where they were going! I have to say, we have some amazing actors and actresses in the making...!
This week we have started our book on 'That Rabbit belongs to Emily Brown.' The children really enjoyed the story. Yesterday, the children brought in their favourite teddy and we did some writing from this. First, we shared our teddies with each other and wrote describing words about it on our whiteboards. We then all wrote sentences about our teddies describing how it looked.
Last week, the children made mini booklets all about ourselves. The children are writing facts about themselves and thinking really carefully about their sentence work. It was great to get to know them!
This week we have been looking at the book 'Sharing a shell' by Julia Donaldson. We have looked at all the characters and used adjectives to describe them, as well as practiced writing sentences. Take a look at our work...
