4.7.25 Length
The children had a super Maths lesson today exploring length with Mrs Bunney. They started by measuring themselves using their partners feet. They also measured objects using cubes and paper clips.
6.6.25 Money
The children have really enjoyed visiting the class shop. They have been exploring ways to make 10p using 1p, 2p and 5p coins. We talked about how we don't have 3p coins, for example, and how we could make the 3p.
Please play shops at home and encourage children to use / play with coins.

Today we started to look at money and what we use this for. We looked at the value of one penny and practised counting out different amounts.
19.5.25 Number of the Week - 17
This week for our number f the week activity we worked in teams to make a poster representing lots of different ways that we could show 17. The children had loads of fantastic ideas such as using ten frames, numicom, fingers, part whole models, numberlines, sums, on dominoes and dice.

Today we looked at the numbers upto 20. We made teen numbers by counting out cubes. We used words of fewer and less to compare the numbers before ordering a set from 0-20.
10.04.25 We have been naming and describing 3D shapes using the feely bag!
02.04.25 In maths, we have been naming and describing 2D shapes and sorting them into one or two criteria.
13.03.25 This week, we have been practising finding one more and one fewer than numbers within 15. The children used cubes and number tracks to help. We are also practising recognising the written numerals.

Our number of the week today was 16. The children worked really well with their kagan partner to show different ways the number 16 could be represented.

We recapped addition today. The children were fantastic at using a number track to solve problems.
13.2.25 & 14.2.25 Subtraction
On Thursday, the children practised taking away objects from a set using a ten frame and cubes.
On Friday, the children moved on to taking away using a number track.

The children have been adding 2 numbers on a number track - we have been using the vocabulary "first, then, now" to help them tell a maths story.
28.1.25 Days of the Week
We learnt about the days of the week today. We ordered the days of the week and talked about what day it is today, will be tomorrow and was yesterday. The children then thought about what they do on different days of the week and have worked together to make a timeline to show this.
21.1.25 Ordering
Today we practised ordering numbers from smallest to largest and largest to smallest. We also practised ordering a small selection of numbers e.g. 3, 7 and 10.
16.1.25 Finding One Less
We have been learning to find one less than a given number using ten frames and beadstrings.
14.1.25 Finding One More
We practised finding one more than a given number using a ten frame to help us.
9.1.25 We continued to practise counting objects to 10 and identifying the correct numeral.
7.1.25 Numbers to 10
Today in Maths we practised being able to count reliably upto 10. We used 10 frames to help us do this. The children worked really well with their kagan partners.
19.12.24 We have been exploring volume, weight and length over the last two weeks. Today, the children measured objects with cubes.
26.11.24 More combining two groups!
The children have continued practising the concept of addition today. We also introduced the concept of adding zero.

The children have explored combining two groups (parts) to find a whole - the beginnings of addition!
19.11.24 Zero
Today the children learnt about the concept of zero and its value. We also practised counting out a correct number of cubes to show a number.
15.11.24 Today, the children practised ordering numbers 1-5. They were very good at it!
14.11.24 This week, the children have been finding one fewer than a number within 6. It is a tricky concept but we have been singing "5 little speckled frongs" and using cubes to help us!
5.11.24 Counting
Today in Maths we practised coutning out a certain number of objects using 1-1 correspodance. The children worked really well with a partner and counted out candles on cakes carefully. They then checked they were right by placing cubes on the candles and counting once more.

Today we practised couting out reliably a small number of objects. We worked well with a partner to make small towers of cubes to match a numeral. We also had fun with some musical instruments playing them a certain numberof times.
17.10.24 We have been exploring repeating patterns in maths this week - the children made patterns with interlocking cubes and in the creative area.
1.10.24 Sorting
In our Maths lesson today we looked at sorting people and objects in different groups. We looked for similarities and differences between the objects to help sort them. The children came up with ideas of sorting a set of vehicles by colour, size and by how many wheels they had.
