ELG: Writing 

Children at the expected level of development will: 

- Write recognisable letters, most of which are correctly formed; 

- Spell words by identifying sounds in them and representing the sounds with a letter or letters; 

- Write simple phrases and sentences that can be read by others. 

17.06.25 We have watched a video called "The Magic Train Ride" and made our own magic train tickets! Later in the week, we will write about where we could go!

In Literacy this morning we read a pirate story.  The children then drew some super pictures of pirates before writing and describing them.

Today we read the Scarecrow's Wedding.  The children have drawn a picture of the Scarecrow, labelled this and written a sentence about it.

15.05.25 The children have listened to Handa's Surprise and made a fruit salad in DT. They chose their favourite fruits to write about. 

10.4.25 The children are doing some amazing spellings in our afternoon phonics:

1.4.25 Rosie's Walk

We read the book Rosie's walk and thought of all the position words used to describe.  We then went outside and built an obstace course.  The children travelled around this using words to describe what they were doing, for example, over, under, between, through.

In phonics today we learnt the new set 2 sound 'air.'

Today we read Superworm and drew a picture of him. We also thought of words to describe him such as strong, long, kind, helpful.  We then wrote a sentence to describe him.

The children are loving learning the set 2 sounds. Today we practised 'igh.'

14.1.25 Phonics

The children have worked so hard in their phonics session today learning the new set 2 sound 'ay.'  They have practised writin words using this sound using their Fred Fingers to help them!

8.1.25 - 10.1.25 Drawing Club

The children have enjoyed exploring The Tiger Who Came to Tea in our Drawing Club sessions. 

In the first session, we have a go at drawing a character: the tiger. In the second session, we wondered what the tiger would order if he went to the cafe with the family! The children enjoyed creating code words to make their tiger do something.

Today the children read the story Jack and the Beanstalk.  We found in our classroom a letter from the giant who was lonely. We decided to paint some giant friends for him and then tried to write some words to describe the giant around this. What a fantastic job everyone!

8.11.24 The children used their Fred Fingers to spell CVC words today for the first time! They blew us away!

What an exciting thing happened in our classroom today!  After lunch we came back from playing outside to find that a glass slipper had been left!  We talked about who it may belong to and thought it was Cinderella's!  We read the story of Cinderella and then thought what we would wish for.  The children drew pictures of their wishes and tried to write down what they had wished for.

We have been trying hard to write our names correctly in our name books forming our letters accurately and neatly.

Today we read the story Kipper's Birthday.  We then made a lovely birthday card for Kipper. The children wrote their names so beautifully inside the cards!

3.10.24 When the children come into school in the morning, their task is now to write their names - they are getting very good at this! You can support your child by practising writing their name at home - you can use a highlighter to help with letter formation if they need to trace the letters. Please encourage correct letter formation.

We started our phonics this week learning the letters m, a, s  and d.  The children have practised saying the letters and writing them each day.
