Well done to the children and parents in these classes!

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been another very productive week at St. Joseph's.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, our Infant School had its Ofsted inspection. So many people sent their well wishes to us, including Mrs Fernandes, Angela Cox (Director of Education for our Diocese) and many Headteachers from across our Umbrella Trust and beyond.  We are very grateful for their support, encouragement and prayers.

The children and the team showcased that St. Joseph's is an amazing place to learn and work. We were proud to share all the wonderful things we do in our school. We are pleased with the outcome and look forward to sharing the published report with you all when it is ready in September. The team and I would like to extend a special thanks to all our governors and parents for their continued support and partnership to ensure our children have the best possible education.

Well done to all the children who represented the school in the Netball and Football competition at BTG on Tuesday and all those who took part in the Catholic Junior Sports Day today. We are glad that we have so many opportunities for our children to compete with others and enhance their sports skills.

Our sports day is next Wednesday and we are really looking forward to it. I have heard the parents races are fantastic and very competitive. We would like to remind about our colour run which is taking place next Saturday. The PTA organise this event and it is £5/ticket! They have awarded the Y6 children have all been award a golden ticket as a thanks you for all their hard work and for being great role models. You can buy your ticket here and are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy with your family.

Today we gathered together to celebrate this Holy Feast Day the Feast Day of SS Peter and Paul. Fr. James lead the Mass and taught us about these Saints and the resilience and commitment they showed as disciples of Jesus. Thanks to all the children who read, our alter servers and Mrs Phillips who organised the Mass. The children sang wonderfully and a lovely way to end the week.

We hope you and your families enjoy a weekend,

Mrs Ashley and The St. Joseph's Team

Inclusion

As the summer holidays approach, we understand the importance of planning activities that cater to the unique needs of our children with additional needs. Early preparation can ensure a smooth and enjoyable holiday for both you and your child.

Consider sensory-friendly activities that provide a calming environment, such as visiting quiet parks, sensory play at home, or attending special sensory sessions at local attractions. Creating a visual schedule or using objects to represent places that you will visit such as a tree branch for a visit to the park can help your child understand and anticipate the daily activities, reducing anxiety and enhancing their experience.

Engage your child in choosing activities to ensure they are enjoyable and suited to their interests and abilities. Whether it's arts and crafts, nature walks, or interactive museum visits, early planning can make all the difference.

We hope these suggestions help you create a memorable and stress-free summer. If you need further assistance or resources, please contact us at St Joseph's.

Early Years

Reception have been using their knowledge of what waterproof materials they can use to create boats. They carefully designed and made their boats out of all sorts of junk modelling materials. Every single boat floated which was such a joyful achievement for everyone.

Key Stage 1

This week class 2J performed a wonderful assembly celebrating all the things they have learnt this year. A particularly highlight was them sharing what they had learnt in Music and demonstrating their newly learnt skill of reading Music. They talked about the fun they had in their History lessons learning about the Monarchy and King Charles's Coronation. They had especially enjoyed reenacting his coronation in class. They read, sang and prayed together beautifully as a class and it was enjoyed by all. Well done 2J and thank you to all the parents and carers who were able to join us.

Lower Key Stage 2

This week has been a very busy one with lots of exciting outdoor activities. As well as completing their usual curriculum lessons, Year 3 were selected to take part in a taster session for Cricket and learned how to bowl using the windmill technique. They then had the opportunity to play a small game, incorporating their newly learnt skills. We have also been taking part in fieldwork as part of our geography topic. This week we went on an observation walk, identifying both physical and human features around our school site.

Upper Key Stage 2

This week, Year 6 have been incredibly busy and very excited to start rehearsals for our upcoming production which you will be able to see on Thursday 18th July. We started the week with the first full run through rehearsal. We have some true divas and drama queens (and kings) in the year group and all will shine during the performance.

On Tuesday we had a fabulous session of cricket with the coach from Surrey Cricket Foundation. The children were all learning how to bowl the cricket ball correctly – not as easy as it looks, but a great effort was made by all.

We have also had our SRE sessions during this week. The children had some very sensible and thoughtful questions for us based on the learning. They may have more questions for you at home as well.

Curriculum Focus

Geography

This week in Geography the focus has been fieldwork! Year 6 have been creating and conducting surveys about recyclying around the school. Next week they will present their information before we embark on our fieldwork at PGL!

Year 3 have been on a walk around the school, making note of human and natural features. Year 4 have been studying rivers and how they are created.

Enrichment

Last Friday, we took seven children to the Croydon Arena for an exciting and very long evening of competition. We are thrilled to announce that two of our students qualified for the Grand Final. Ezekiel W in Year 4 earned a bronze medal, while Nathanael in Year 3 won a gold medal in the sprints! Well done to everyone involved—qualifying for the Finals is a massive achievement in itself. A special thank you to Serene Rose and her mother for donating the kits you see the children wearing, and to Miss Steph and Mrs. Mangan for arranging the kit delivery to the school. Once again, well done to our seven athletes for their outstanding representation of our school.
