English Language Learners
We provide learning programs for English Language Learners and proficient speakers of English as a Second Language. We believe that our students who speak English as their second language benefit from extra support with academic vocabulary well after they have mastered social and functional English Language.
ELLs are identified at enrolment and established in our system through their enrolment procedure.
Our qualified ELL learning support teacher monitors all ELLs alongside class teachers to determine their learning needs.
We meet once a term with each class teacher, the learning support team and the principal/SENCO and have a team discussion about the progress, achievement and next step of all our ELLs. This is then prioritised and introduced into the learning support timetable and noted in teacher planning.
ESOL Funding
We spend more than our ESOL funding and the funding supports:
ELL learning support teacher wage
Contribution to release time for teachers to work with ELL learning support team
ELL resources - in 2019 we bought the "Everyday Living" series of Books, and in 2020 we bought the Science in my World Series
