Curriculum Capabilities

Our curriculum is wholly based on the New Zealand Curriculum, embued with our Catholic special character, mindful of our local tangata whenua and our unique North Otago environment and history.

What we care about in our curriculum is taken from our school history, our local context, and consultation with our community, staff and students.

We are combining the key competencies from NZC in the way proposed by Rosemary Hipkins in Weaving a Coherent Curriculum. This has given us a curriculum driven by learner capabilities. Our graduate profile and transition point matrix have made these capabilities local to St Joseph's Catholic school in Oamaru and directly relevant to our learners and our community.

We have cross-referenced our graduate profile with our own goals, our Special Character and Dominican Charism, the Docere model of our high school St Kevin's College and the principles of the New Zealand Curriculum.
