Hallo, Guten Tag, Servus und Grüzi!
My name is Petra Jones, or “Frau,” as my students call me. I was born and raised in a beautiful small German town about an hour’s car ride north of Frankfurt, Hessen. After receiving my “Abitur” from the Johanneum Gymnasium in Herborn, Hessen and completing an industrial business management program (“gepr. Industriekauffrau”), in Germany. I decided to study one year in the United States to improve my English. I was an exchange student living with a family in Westfield, New Jersey. I obtained a business administration certificate at Union County College while in the US. During this time, I met my future husband Harry Jones.
I returned to Germany to study business and Marketing at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (formerly known as FH Giessen Friedberg) and earned my “Dipl. Betriebswirt” as well as a Certification as Translator and Interpreter for Deutsch < > Englisch. After marrying the love of my life in 1994, we returned to New Jersey and I worked for several years in the Transportation and Forwarding Industry. From 1998 to 2015, I worked as a freelance translator and teacher for multiple Language Schools and Translation agencies utilizing my second degree while raising two beautiful children: a son, Christopher, and a daughter, Yohanna.
I have been a teacher at Saint Joseph High School in Metuchen, New Jersey since the fall of 2015. I am currently teaching German I, II, III, and IV/AP. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I am the Moderator of the German Honor Society, the Moderator for the Respect Life Club and the Coordinator of our school’s Formation-Tutoring program.
In August of 2021, I will graduate from the Master of Arts in Foreign Language Teaching program (MAFLT) at Michigan State University.
The contents of this website are the culminating project of my participation in the Master’s program. The reflections, materials, and artifacts found in these pages are the evidence of my learning and demonstrate my growth as a Master teacher. I thank you for your interest in my website. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, suggestions or comments.
Bis bald,
Frau Jones
