During the challenging year of 2020/2021 many of my classes were fully remote or hybrid. My teaching methods evolved to create methods to allow online students to participate in class in an interactive way. For this purposes I created many slide presentations, which I either prerecorded, or presented in Zoom meetings via the Pear-Deck-Goggle-Add-On-App. An example of a prerecorded slide presentation can be found on the Technology evidence page in form of the "Familie - Video". To the left you can view the slides for a Pear Deck presentation on German New Years traditions.
The Pear Deck App allows students to join the teacher's live presentation via a secure "join" code. The teacher presents and plays the embedded Video content or Audio content. The teacher then presents the lesson using pear deck slides with formulated questions that ensure each student interacts with the lesson, provides answers, and participates in the learning process. Due to Zoom's recording restrictions I could not record a live Zoom session of the pear-deck presentation with my students. However, below you can view videos of Zoom recordings of my warm up activities with my German II students.

Recording of a student warm-up utilizing the Google App "Jamboard"
The video on the left is an example of an "I see, I think, I wonder" exercise. For this exercise I created a Google-Jamboard picture prompt. Students then write what they see, think and wonder about on their own section of the Jamboard. This exercise practices higher order-subordinating-sentences, as students must explain their thoughts. I often utilize this type of exercise as a warm-up in the beginning of my class. Here you can find the PDF-file for one of my students answers. This is a Zoom recording of a session with some of my German II low intermediate students.
This is a recording of an activity which I utilize to train listening skills and listening comprehension.
I believe in providing students with authentic input. Here I utilized a short video from the German Kids-Newsreport "Logo-Nachrichten" After the class watched the video we discuss the key elements of the video. As homework students then worked on the "Logo-Nachrichten-Arbeitsblatt". They had to find and define 10 key vocabulary words, summarize briefly what the content of the video was and they have to identify the intended audience.
Recording of a warm-up session using the GoGoMo method.
This is an exercise, which I utilize as a warm up activity. It activates student knowledge about a subject and can be utilized as a speaking activity in which students exchange the facts that they know about a theme. The information can be utilized for future writing or speaking activities. Here is an example of a completed GoGoMo page from one of my German II students.
