"Tell me and I will forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I will learn."
("Erzähl es mir und ich vergesse es. Bring es mir bei und ich merke es mir. Lass es mich machen und ich lerne.")

By clicking the links to the left you will learn about my teaching philosophy, see me in "action" in classroom videos, and explore how I utilize technology in the classroom, write assessments and teach interculturally in the pedagogical skills section.
Each of my thematic units are structured around the 6 thematic units of the AP German exam - Family and Community, Beauty and Aesthetics, Personal and Public Identity, Research and Technology, Daily Life, Global Problems. In each unit students must perform tasks, which allows them tp practice the three modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal, presentational) while practicing reading, writing and speaking in the target language.
I believe students are more motivated to learn a language if they see applications in their own Live's. In my classroom I promote learning through the use of technology and game play.
I created Quizlet and Kahoot Vocabulary games for almost every unit that I teach. I also created a website with interactive games which allows students to practice vocabulary and grammar in an autonomous way.
In my classroom I do not provide knowledge about a culture, I challenge students existing identity, practices, values, attitudes, beliefs, and worldviews by allowing the students to compare and contrast their own communities and practices with the communities and practices and beliefs of a German speaking region. To achieve this purpose I have a partnered with a high school in Germany to start a virtual exchange in the fall of the 2021 school year.
