Welcome to 4th Grade!

Mrs. Slanina

Bio

My name is Christie Slanina and I am so excited to be your teacher this year!

I grew up in Arcadia, California and have lived in Southern California for most of my life. I attended UC Santa Barbara and received a Bachelors of Arts in Asian American Studies with a minor in Gender Studies, Cal State Long Beach for my Multiple Subject Teaching credential, and Loyola Marymount for my Masters in Educational Studies. I have taught in public, private, and charter schools and I specialize in digital learning, specifically Google Apps for Education. I have taught 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.

I am married to a St. Dorothy's alumnus. If you walk by the Kindergarten room, there is a plaque dedicated to my husband's mother. We have two children, Christopher and Serafina. They are only 14 months apart, so they're practically twins. We currently do not have pets since our kids are so young, but we have owned several dogs and even a hamster! I'm sure if my husband has his way, we'll have a dog in the next year or so.

Before coming to St. Dorothy's, we all lived in Milan, Italy for 18 months. Serafina was born and baptized in Italy, so we have long-standing ties to Europe now. We definitely took advantage of easy travel through Europe and have visited 15 countries in our short time there. We love traveling as a family and are looking forward to exploring America.

Fun fact: I once participated in an ice cream eating contest and ate a pint of vanilla ice cream in a little over 3 minutes. My teeth hurt for days.

Go Bruins!
