Y12 University Open Days / Y13 Offer holders' Days. If you wish to attend any days this year, please remember to fill in a form each time.
Dear Y12 and families,
Year 12 Work Experience
At St Bart's Sixth Form we encourage all students to seek opportunities to develop their employability and leadership skills. All Year 12 students are encouraged to take advantage of up to 5 days authorised leave for work experience both to improve these skills and qualities as well as developing connections with possible employers or exploring their interests in a particular sector further - this is a formative experience that gives them a competitive edge, a break from the routines of school and an opportunity to identify possible career plans. Students can choose to take 5 days in total, either for one placement or divide it between different employers.
We would advise students to start looking for possible work experience placements as soon as possible if they haven’t already started. Students have been advised to decide what industry or field they are interested in and to set some goals for the experience - is it for experience of a particular area, to try a skill, to get a reference?
Students should research using resources like Unifrog, NCS, job sites like INDEED and Linkedin and start contacting HR departments with a good cover letter. Students should use contacts such as friends, family, friends of friends, and work colleagues and to be persistent! A good cover letter plus a phone call or personal contact for example on social media with a company can help build relationships.
Once you have secured a placement then please use the two forms below - one for parental and one to send to the employers. Please complete a separate form for each employer.
The links for the two forms are below:
