Borgen project 

1) Political Affairs Programme – this programme features well with A Level Politics, but anyone who is interested in fighting global poverty is welcome to apply. The programme incorporates the following:

- Meet with their elected official.

- Represent The Borgen Project at various business, political and community events.

- Assist with fundraising. Create a personal fundraising campaign and meet targets. This task builds upon developmental growth, both on a personal and professional level. The list of benefits are goal setting, decision making, wise use of resources, creating a plan, keeping records, communicating, co-operation, and self-responsibility.

- Mobilise individuals to contact their elected official in support of key poverty-reduction legislation. 

- As needed, speak to groups, classes, and organisations.

- Write letters of support for key programmes to political leaders, media, and other groups.

2) Non-profit Leadership Programme – this programme features well with A Level Business, but anyone who is interested in fighting global poverty is welcome to apply. The programme incorporates the following tasks:

- Advocacy Leadership Development: Meet with their elected official; represent The Borgen Project at various business, political and community events; mobilise individuals to contact their member of Parliament in support of key poverty-reduction legislation.

- Fundraising Development: Learn how to fundraise. Create a personal fundraising campaign and meet targets. This task builds upon developmental growth, both on a personal and professional level. The list of benefits are goal setting, decision making, wise use of resources, creating a plan, keeping records, communicating, co-operation, and self-responsibility.

- Recruitment: Update programme postings; inform groups and classes of openings, introduction to recruitment platforms and listening in to interviews.

- Marketing and Promotion: Pitch story ideas to print, broadcast and digital media and utilise social media and develop strategies for web-based messaging.

3) Human Resources Programme - this programme features well with A Level Business, but anyone who is interested in fighting global poverty is welcome to apply. The programme incorporates the following tasks:

- Learn the basics of HR Management, Recruiting & Selection and Staff Training & Development.

- Update programme postings using various platforms (when applicable).

- Inform groups and classes of programme postings.

- Learn how to fundraise. Create a personal fundraising campaign and meet targets. This task builds upon developmental growth, both on a personal and professional level. The list of benefits are goal setting, decision making, wise use of resources, creating a plan, keeping records, communicating, co-operation, and self-responsibility.

- Assist with advocacy efforts.

4) Public Relations / Marketing Programme - this programme features well with A Level Business, but anyone who is interested in fighting global poverty is welcome to apply. The programme incorporates the following tasks:

- Create a branding campaign.

- Conduct an informal focus group and gather feedback for market research.

- Pitch story ideas to print, broadcast and digital media. 

- Create and implement a fundraising strategy. This task builds upon developmental growth, both on a personal and professional level. The list of benefits are goal setting, decision making, wise use of resources, creating a plan, keeping records, communicating, co-operation, and self-responsibility.

- Plan, market and present at an informational meeting.

- Utilise social media and develop strategies for web-based messaging.

- Assist with The Borgen Project's advocacy efforts.

5) Writer/Journalism Programme - this programme features well with A Level English Language & Literature, Media Studies, and English Literature, but anyone who is interested in fighting global poverty is welcome to apply. The programme incorporates the following tasks:

– Write one article per week. Articles submitted will appear on BORGEN Magazine or The Borgen Project Blog.

– Research topics.

– Assist with advocacy efforts.

– Assist with fundraising. Create a personal fundraising campaign and meet targets. This task builds upon developmental growth, both on a personal and professional level. We are open 7 days a week running sessions mainly afterschool and weekends. We are currently looking for volunteers and have supported many students to allow them to add this experience to their CV and also to support their University applications.

Mercedes-Benz apprenticeships 

Mercedes-Benz are currently recruiting for apprentices across a variety of roles, in our nationwide network of retailers and dealers.

There are vacancies for Light Vehicle and Heavy Vehicle Technicians, Customer Service Experts and Retail Parts Advisors.

If you are interested in doing an apprenticeship, please look on the website https://mercedes-benztraining.co.uk/mercedes-benz-academy-programme.aspx. Using your home postcode, you can search for vacancies in your local areas and then make an application.  The vacancies are constantly changing, with new positions being added regularly.  If a you are unable to find something in your local area initially, please do check back regularly as new positions may become available.

The apprenticeships are open to students who are 16 and over (they must be 16 to start the programme in September, so can apply whilst they are 15), and ideally Mercedes-Benz look for students with a grade 4 or above in English and Maths at GCSE.  They do offer functional skills where these grades have not been achieved.  Further information can be found on our website, as well as some hints and tips about writing an application.
