Focus: Multiplication foundations & fractions intro

Incoming Grade 3 students should know how to:

• Add and subtract within 100

• Understand even and odd numbers

• Work with equal groups as multiplication

• Partition shapes into halves, thirds, fourths

• Tell time to the nearest 5 minutes

• Know addition and subtraction facts within 20

• Understand place value to 1,000

• Skip count by 2s, 5s, 10s, and 100s

• Add and subtract three digit numbers with regrouping, including across 0's.

Enrichment Activities

Technology Free:

• Array art: Arrange small objects (pennies, beans) into rectangular arrays and write the matching multiplication sentence.

• Fraction pizza: Fold paper circles into halves, thirds, and fourths. Label each part and compare fractions.

• Times table skip-count song: Skip-count by 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s while bouncing a ball or jumping rope.

Digital:

• Khan Academy Kids: Free app with playful games reinforcing counting and early operations.

• Prodigy Math: Game-based adaptive platform with a free tier; curriculum aligns to grade level.

• Mathigon / Polypad: Free virtual manipulatives for fractions, arrays, and number lines — excellent visual tool.
