Focus: Addition, subtraction & place value to 20

Incoming Grade 1 students should know how to:

• Count to 100 by 1s and 10s

• Read and write numbers to 20

• Add and subtract within 10 fluently

• Understand numbers 11–19 as ten + ones

• Measure length with non-standard units

• Tell time to the hour

• Compare numbers using >, <, =

• Identify and compose 2D and 3D shapes

Enrichment Activities

Technology Free:

• Dice war: Each player rolls two dice and adds them. Highest sum takes both dice. First to 20 dice wins.

• Number line hopscotch: Draw a number line with chalk (0–20). Call addition facts and hop to the answer.

• Coin counting jar: Sort and count a jar of pennies and dimes. Practice 'how many tens?'
