Mission Statement: The Colorado Natural Areas Council was created through C.R.S 33-33-106 and is a seven member Governor appointed advisory council for the Colorado Natural Areas Program. The Council provides programmatic guidance to the Colorado Natural Areas Program and recommends the designation of certain qualifying lands as State Natural Areas to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission.
Time Commitment: Term length is four years, can serve up to two consecutive terms. Meetings are quarterly (4/year). Majority of meetings are in Denver, however meetings may be held in conjunction with state natural area field tours across the state. The council in non-regulatory.
Membership Criteria:
All members are Governor appointed. Five members are individuals with a substantial interest in the preservation of state natural areas. One member is a representative from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission and one is a member of the State Board of Land Commissioners.
Compensation: Members are reimbursed for mileage and per diem for travel.
