TIM Responder Train-the-Trainer Sessions
In-Person opportunities to get your certification to teach the 4-hour Responder course.
There are two potential opportunities to sign-up for TIM Responder TtT sessions in the Denver Metro area:

Classes need a minimum of 15 people to be held, with a maximum of 25 people per class. Sign up soon so the class can be confirmed and to reserve your slot for the training.
In-Person Train-the-Trainer (TtT) Course Announcement
The National TIM Responder Training Program was developed by responders for responders, and was designed to promote consistent training of all responders to achieve the three objectives of the TIM National Unified Goal (NUG):
Responder Safety
Safe, Quick Clearance
Prompt, Reliable, Interoperable Communications
The Train-the-Trainer (TtT) course covers eight hours of material and is intended to
provide participants (i.e., trainers) the knowledge and materials necessary for them
to conduct TIM training for responders in their area or TIM Team.
Requirements for participation:
Prior instructional and TIM experience
Commitment to providing training to other TIM responders in your area
Commitment to submitting your training records
The target audience for the course is all TIM disciplines, including: Communications,
Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Fire/Rescue, Law
Enforcement, Towing and Recovery, and Transportation/Public Works.

TIM Responder Training Course Lesson Summary
1. Introduction: TIM training program purpose, the dangers encountered by emergency responders working in or near traffic, and the definition of TIM
2. TIM Fundamentals and Terminology: safe, quick clearance definition, supporting legislation, and common response terminology
3. Notification and Scene Size-Up: roles and responsibilities of public safety communications centers and transportation management centers, and scene size-up reporting
4. Safe Vehicle Positioning: safe-positioning of vehicles and blocking
5. Scene Safety: emergency vehicle markings, emergency-vehicle lighting, use of
high-visibility safety apparel, and safe practices for avoiding the Zero Buffer
6. Command Responsibilities: Incident Command System as it relates to TIM
7. Traffic Management: components of a Traffic Incident Management Area and the proper use of temporary traffic control devices
8. Special Circumstances: incidents involving vehicle fires, hazardous materials, vehicle fluid spills, and crash investigations
9. Clearance and Termination: quick clearance strategies, towing and recovery communications, and incident termination
Online TIM Responder Course Remote Learning Opportunity
The National Highway Institute (NHI) web-based four-hour TIM responder course is perfect for individuals that are unable to join an in-person course. The lessons are narrated and include knowledge check questions.
Accessing the web-based training will require the creation of a NHI account.

Talking TIM: April 2023 April 26, 2023
Register for the April 26, 2023 Talking TIM webinar, taking place 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. EDT. The FHWA TIM program will feature the following topics from members of our Traffic Incident Management (TIM) community:

Each month, Talking TIM will highlight successful programs, identify best practices, and showcase technology that advances the profession.
