These competencies are designed to complement the competency sets for educators and directors. They focus on the additional competencies trainers need to design and deliver effective training with emphasis on adult learning practices and training design.
Experienced early childhood educators and directors wishing to share their expertise with others may choose to follow a trainer career path. Visit Colorado Early Childhood Trainer Credential to learn more about the credential and its requirements.
A good place to start is by reading through the first level of each competency domain and assessing what you would like to focus on first. You may also choose to complete the trainer self-assessment through your Colorado Shines PDIS account. Use the Taking the Self-Assessment in My Professional Development Plan how-to guide to learn how. Many of the trainer competencies can be gained by completing two Department-approved trainings: Training Design and Adult Learners. Both are offered as free online self-paced courses on PDIS. Completing these two courses is a great way to explore your interest in becoming an early childhood trainer.
