Students at Saint Anthony's have the opportunity to study privately or in intimate group lessons with top musical professionals on Long Island.
Mr. Frederick Trumpy, Percussion
Frederick Trumpy is a drummer, percussionist, chamber musician and devoted teacher.
Fred joined the St. Anthony's faculty in 2023 as our percussion specialist teaching our Percussion Ensemble, as well as percussion lessons to students in the Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Highland Drumming groups. He currently serves as the Director of the Concert Band and Percussion Ensemble as well as the Assistant Director to the Orchestra and Symphonic Band. Fred also teaches our Music Theory class and continues to serve as our percussion specialist and lesson instructor.
Fred is also currently the director of Gamelan Yowana Sari at The Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, teaching traditional, contemporary and commissioned Balinese music.
He has instructed through many different organizations including Midori and Friends, United Nations International School, The Special Music School, Cambria Center for the Gifted Child, Face the Music Ensemble and The Kupferberg Center for the Arts’ outreach program Cultural After School Adventures Program.
Fred can be heard on the German label Yo-Yo Records and American labels including Fear Icon Records, Jetsam Flotsam Records, Better Days Will Haunt You Tapes, UnBuckled Records, and Listen Up!
Mrs. Katherine Giuliano, Strings
Katherine Giuliano holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. After receiving a Master of Music (Performance) from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, she went on to do doctoral studies there. As a violinist, she has performed in the Baton Rouge Symphony, the Louisiana Chamber Orchestra and the New Orleans Ballet and Pops Orchestra. Katherine was violinist in the award-winning Northport Piano Trio for 10 years, performing throughout NYC and Long Island, and in Russia, Finland and Europe. She holds professional affiliations with SCMEA, LISFA, ASTA, NAFME and regularly adjudicates NYSSMA Festivals. In addition to teaching at St. Anthony’s HS, Katherine teaches part-time in the Northport-East Northport district, freelances and maintains a private studio.
Mr. Michael Canipe, Brass
Michael Canipe, a native of North Carolina, has been active as a professional musician and educator on Long Island and in the New York City area for over thirty-five years. He is the founder and conductor of the Queens Festival Band and the conductor of the Gemini Concert Winds. He has served as Music Director and brass coach for the Gemini Youth Orchestras. He was the orchestra manager and educational coordinator for the Long Island Masterworks as well as the bass trombonist. He plays principal euphonium with the Concert Pops of Long Island and trombone with the New York Brass Ensemble. He continues his work as a free lance musician throughout the New York area, and is, at present, the founder and director of the Melville Brass.
Mr. Canipe has collaborated with both the Orlando Ballet and the Circle of Dance Company as orchestra arranger and conductor. He was bass trombonist for the Long Island Symphony as well as the Symphony of Long Island where he served as orchestra personnel manager and educational consultant. He also played with the Long Island Philharmonic Orchestra. He has conducted All-County ensembles on Long Island and was guest conductor of the Stony Brook University Chorus and Orchestra. He is the conductor of the Nassau Community College Orchestra.
Mr. Canipe is a graduate of East Carolina University and began his professional career with the North Carolina Symphony. While pursuing a master's degree in trombone performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music, he studied conducting with James Levine. He has been a member of the St. Anthony’s faculty for over 20 years.
Mr. William Link, Woodwinds
Mr. William Link is an experienced music educator, administrator and conductor. Mr. Link taught instrumental music in the Comsewogue Union Free School District (1987-2020) in Port Jefferson Station and at St. Anthony's High School (1984-1987) before retiring in 2020. During 36 years as a teacher, Mr Link taugh t instrumental music, classroom music and music theory as well as band, jazz band, pit orchestra, marching band and chorus at the elementary, middle and high school levels. In 2022, after a 36 year absence, Mr. Link returned to St. Anthony's as a woodwind specialist and expressed that he was happy to be back in the place he began his career all those years ago.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Link founded the Smithtown Community Band in 1987 and has continued as its director and conductor since its inception. He also cofounded Transitions Saxophone Quartet in 1987 and remains the lead alto and soprano saxophonist for the ensemble.
In addition to his certification as a music teacher, Mr. Link holds a New York State Certification in School District Administration. Mr. Link was Subject Leader in the Comsewogue School District from 1999-2003 and his responsibilities included budgeting research, surveys, interviews, festival organization, the development of adult education programs and technology-based music instruction.
