Percussion Ensemble
This is a performance course for students with varied ability in percussion skills. Music performed will include a variety of repertoire from multiple music traditions including: western classical music, African drumming traditions, pop style literature, Latin jazz, and Brazilian Samba. Students will develop and hone skills in basic playing technique, listening, reading music, ensemble collaboration, understanding of differing performance styles, improvisation, and leadership. Members of the Percussion Ensemble are required to attend weekly rehearsals and perform in the Christmas and Spring music department concerts as well as their own concert in the Spring. Proficient piano players are also encouraged to join as the transition to learning a mallet instrument is often seamless if there is prior piano knowledge.
Audition and Approval of Ensemble Director Required
This course meets every Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.

Members of the Percussion Ensemble are required to take private lessons and attend weekly rehearsals and perform in the Christmas and Spring music department concerts as well as their own concert in the Spring.
