(Please see the COVID-19 page and Stanford Health Alerts for specific policies related to the pandemic).
Smoking
Stanford University is a non-smoking campus. Smoking is not permitted inside any university building, including the GSB Residences (Schwab Residential Center). There are dedicated smoking areas around the Knight Management Center including one in front of GSB Residences.
Use this link to view a map of the designated smoking areas. These designated smoking areas will pointed out to you on the GSB Residences tour upon check-in.
Noise
Quiet hours begin at 11:00 pm on weeknights (Sunday through Thursday) and at 1:00 am on weekends (Friday and Saturday). Please be considerate of residents. Noise that is disruptive to other members of the Schwab Community is a violation of the University Noise Policy. Please be considerate of other guests and students in the community. Those who do not abide by these policies will be reminded of the policy.
Drinking and Driving
Don’t do it. The State of California has very strict laws regarding driving under the influence that are rigorously enforced. These laws also extend to bicycle riders. The Stanford University campus police are extremely vigilant. Be prudent, call a taxi instead.
Stanford University strives to provide a place of work and study free of sexual harassment, intimidation or exploitation. It is expected that all members of the Stanford community will treat one another with respect. The Sexual Harassment Policy applies to all faculty, participants and staff at the University. Everyone who participates in the programs of the University and those who work on Stanford University projects are covered by and must comply with the provisions in this policy.
Stanford defines sexual harassment as: "Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other visual, verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitute sexual harassment when: (1) It is implicitly or explicitly suggested that submission to or rejection of the conduct will be a factor in academic or employment decisions or evaluations, or permission to participate in a University activity; or (2) The conduct has the purpose or effect of interfering with an individual's academic or work performance by creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive academic, work or student living environment."
If Stanford determines that any Stanford employee, participant, agent, representative or associate is the target of sufficiently inappropriate or sexually harassing behavior by a participant in a Stanford sponsored program or by a contract employee working on a Stanford sponsored contract, the participant may be removed from their current program or contract.
