Mission 2: Paper Bikes 2023
Challenge details are here: PaperBike 2023-24 Challenge
This is a multi-part Mission with a couple of short exercises that are done individually and a rapid design cycle that is done in teams (which we will form on 27 Sept. using information from your Personal Profiles).
PBike Benchmarking and Design archives (10/3) - Learn about the "parts" bike that we give to your team. Learn about some recurring design issues with paper bikes and be prepared to discuss them in class on Oct. 3. This is an individual assignment.
Paper Bike Preparations & Lessons Learned (10/3) - Show us what you have learned from testing last year's bikes and explain what you believe the thought, design, and manufacturing process was. Make sure to include the propeller mechanism, overall size and turning considerations, and rider comfort.
Macro Team updates, CFP plans, and completion plans (10/5) - Show us what you've been doing and how you plan to have a working Penultimate vehicle on 10/10.
PBike Team Penultimate Reviews (10/10) - (This is a team deliverable.) Show us something that works and what you have learned from things that did not work (e.g. CFP lessons). Also, show us how you are documenting your process (display on a large monitor during the meeting).
Draft Requirements (10/12==>10/14) - Submit a draft requirements table (one per team) for review. This will be important for your final documentation. By now, you have presumably figured out what the requirements are. Use the previous documents you've benchmarked and the lessons learned from disassembly as your guide.
PBike Design Documentation (10/19) - Document your design and design process, including lessons learned for the future.
**It is also very helpful if teammates are able to take advantage of the Product Realization Lab (PRL). In order to create the wheels in a timely manner, using the woodshop in the PRL is essential. Follow the steps below to begin using the PRL.
Register for a new account with the PRL by filling out this Google form. You need to pass the quiz questions in order to access the next steps.
You will receive an email with a link to make an account. Create your account and fill out the needed information.
Once you have an account register for a one-hour PRL training session here.
After your account is complete and your training is finished, sign up for a PRL slot or just show up and use an available machine while the PRL is open.
