Welcome Grants

Since the 2016-17 academic year, Stanford has provided low-income freshman with $2,000 welcome grants to help them transition to college. The grants are provided to domestic students from families without an expected parent contribution towards the cost of their undergraduate degree. Many undergraduate were involved in the creation of this program including Sydney Osifeso ‘17. The grants wouldn’t have been possible without the effort of the Stanford Director of Financial Aid Karen Cooper who wholeheartedly supported the creation of the grant sat Stanford University. The initial $1,000 is provided before students arrive, and at the start of winter and spring quarters students will receive $500.

You may have seen the wonderful video that the DGEN office put together regarding how to spend the money. I would advise saving a good portion of money for emergencies and put the rest towards limiting the amount you need to work fall quarter as you adjust to campus life.
