Here at Malvern College Egypt we take Physical Education and Sport competitions very seriously. We offer a wide range of sports and activities for the students to take part in during their PE lessons, as well as a number of sports on a more competitive level. During the school day we focus on benchball, basketball, football, athletics, rugby, orienteering and table tennis. We believe these sports and activities provide students with the opportunity to become physically literate young people, improving both fundamental skills and physical capabilities. We are in a positive position this year to be able to offer a number of sports where students can compete across Cairo against other international schools. We have competitive teams for both boys and girls within the primary and secondary schools for football, basketball, swimming and touch rugby.
We are fortunate enough to have a team of ten teachers within the department where all are fully qualified and experienced members of staff, who have taught all over the world. These teachers each have individual specialties, further providing the students with a balanced and broad standard of education.
Bench ball is a game we use at MCE to develop student’s ability to improve hand-eye coordination and positional play. It is an activity that’s an adaptation of both netball and basketball. We play with six students on each team and the objective is to pass the ball (without moving when in possession of the ball) to the ‘goal scorer’ (who is stood on a bench). The team who scores the most points at the end of the game, wins the match.
We use basketball at MCE to further develop student’s hand-eye coordination and positional play. Basketball is a game played between two teams of five players in which points are scored by throwing a ball through the hoop. We are fortunate enough to be able to compete across Cairo against other schools in basketball for both boys and girls across both the primary and secondary schools.
Football is a game used at MCE to develop student's ‘foot-eye coordination, whilst improving teamwork and leadership. We focus on the fundamental movements within football, using both feet, improving fitness and teamwork. Depending on age, we at MCE play 7-a-side matches for both boys and girls. We are fortunate enough to be able to compete across Cairo against other schools in football for both boys and girls across both the primary and secondary schools.
We are fortunate enough to have two heated swimming pools here at MCE where we are able to teach lessons for all ages across the College. We attempt to provide the younger students with a safe, calm atmosphere that allows students to learn the fundamentals of swimming to gain confidence within the pool. through to the upper years ew cover all strokes used including freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke. We are fortunate enough to be able to compete across Cairo against other schools in various Swimming gala’s for both boys and girls across both the primary and secondary schools.
Rugby is a team game played with an oval ball that can be kicked, carried or passed from hand to hand. Points are scored by grounding the ball behind the opponent’s goal line (scoring a try). We at MCE focus on ‘tag rugby’ where we provide students with tag belts, where each time attempts to take the tags off of their opponents. If a team takes a tag from five different players, the ball is turned over to the defending team.
We at Malvern attempt to incorporate as many different athletic events as possible during the PE lessons, particularly in preparation for our yearly sports days events. We cover track events from a 50m sprint to 1500m race whilst covering the shot put, discuss, long jump and high jump in the field events.
Table Tennis is an indoor game based on tennis, played with a bat and a soft ball. It can either be played as a 1v1 or 2v2 match. The objective is to hit the ball over the net and bounce on the opposition side, with the opposition not being able to return the ball. It is played on a table with a net dividing the table for each participant. At MCE we believe table tennis provides students with the opportunity to improve their hand-eye coordination through this net wall activity.
