The aim of the Secondary School at Malvern College Egypt is to support students in becoming independent, well-rounded young adults equipped with the skills and qualities needed for success beyond school. The curriculum is based on Key Stage 3 of the English National Curriculum, followed by IGCSEs and internationally recognised university entrance qualifications. All subjects are taught by specialist teachers, ensuring depth and expertise across the curriculum.
For students applying to join Year 7 and above, the College requires the submission of full academic reports from the current and previous schools, covering the last two full academic years as well as the current year to date. These reports must be provided prior to scheduling any assessments and help us determine the student’s suitability for the academic year and examination track being applied for.
From IG1 onwards, our curriculum is guided by student subject choices in areas such as History, Business, and Drama. However, timetable constraints may limit the availability of certain subjects for new students, particularly if they are joining mid-course or requesting subjects not previously studied. Following the review of academic reports, parents will be advised on suitable subject options tailored to their child’s background and academic pathway.
All Secondary School students undertake different sets of assessments during the admissions process:
Online Cognitive Ability Test: this is a diagnostic tool used to help the College understand what the student's academic potential might be. It also assesses how a pupil thinks in the areas that make a difference to learning.
Written assessment: these are largely designed to give the College an indication of the student's ability within the reading and writing of English. For students to be able to access the high demands of the MCE curriculum they need a secure level of English language proficiency.
As part of the entrance assessment process, all students will meet with one or more members of our academic staff. These conversations are designed to explore each student’s attitude towards learning, personal interests, and overall approach to school life. While academic background and potential are key considerations, equal importance is placed on the student’s capacity to engage actively in all aspects of College life. From sporting achievements to community service, we recognise the vital role co-curricular activities play in helping students flourish and reach their full potential.
