The Short Story class is designed to provide students the opportunity to read a variety of stories from different authors and different genres while practicing key reading and writing skills. Specifically, students will focus on determining a theme (RL.11-12.2), analyzing author’s choices (RL.11-12.3) and discussing author’s choices (RL.11-12.5). Some of the themes the course will focus on include: Good vs. Evil, Power and Corruption, Survival, Prejudice, Individual vs. Society, Coming of Age, and Overcoming Obstacles. Each of these theme units will include 3-4 short stories and will culminate with a summative assessment of paper or presentation or project.
