Comp 2

COMP 2

Instructor: Ms. Peterson

Grade Level: 11-12

Graduation requirement fulfilled? Yes, “writing” elective.

This is a dual credit course for which students earn both credit at MCC and Louisa-Muscatine.

The purpose of the course is to enable students to think and write critically through an examination of logic, style, and form.  This process will include the following:

Course Framework:  We will begin with an overview of persuasive techniques.  Following this initial examination of persuasion, we will study argumentation and research.  Using various texts, we will analyze and write persuasive/argumentative essays.  Then, using the tools acquired through this study and practice, students will write argumentative research papers in proper form as delineated in the texts.  This is a class for college credit and grading, reading and writing demands, and expectations are structured accordingly.  This is the last of the Regents’ rhetoric requirement of Speech, Comp 1 and Comp 2 and as such, is perhaps the most demanding.  This will require rigorous reading, independence, and initiative on the part of students but will prepare students for the rigor of college and academic writing.
