Review of the LISD PLC Process

In LISD, PLCs are a combination of several important ideas and principles.

1) 3 areas that improve and inform professional practices to impact student learning: Collaborative Culture, Focus on Learning, and Results Driven.

2) Curriculum designed using principles from Understanding by Design (UbD) / Backwards Design: desired outcomes, assessment, and  learning design.

3) 4 essential questions from Solution Tree.

1. What do we want the students to know?

2. How will we know if the students learn it?

3. What will we do if they do NOT learn it?

4. What will we do if they DO learn it?

DMS PLC Training

PLC is NOT a verb or a program -- it is a process driven by educators invested in working together to improve student learning.

Durham teachers combine UbD, Solution Tree PLC principles, and LISD curriculum to focus on student learning and experience as we plan lessons and more during PLCs every other week.

1. Focus on Learning

2. Data Driven Decisions

3. Collaborative Culture
