Good Afternoon, First Grade Families!
We had a wonderful day together! We did some getting to know you activities, crafts, reading and discussing our new book and I read a Christmas (Haha) book about the Nativity. Our day flew by and your students are just amazing!
Your students learned about Creation, the bible, The Blessed Trinity, The Holy Family, a story about Zacchaeus and so much more!
The children can share and empty their folders. They can keep the Grace Before Meals plate at the kitchen table to practice before their meals!
Each day they should continue to have their backpack, supplies, religion book and folder. I was so impressed with their supplies and organization today! Some kids left their book and supplies in room which is fine!
Please ask them about their day using this email! That's how it will be best absorbed!
See you all tomorrow and please make sure I see you taking your child. If I'm speaking to a parent please either wait so I see you or tap me so I know otherwise I worry:-)
Thank you!

Good Evening!
We had another awesome day together learning about our Catholic faith! Your children are so much fun and seem to be really absorbing all of the new information that they are learning!
Today the children were able to go to an art class first thing in the morning where they made a cross... They really enjoyed going there!
We created a Zacchaeus booklet and we read through it. I encouraged the kids to read it for a bedtime story with you! While we were creating it, Deacon Declan came and visited with the children for a few minutes and they were able to retell the story of Zacchaeus beautifully! I was so impressed!
We read and discussed parts of chapters 5, 6 and 8 throughout the day. Some key ideas the children learned were The Great Commandment, the Apostles, the Lord's Prayer, the Holy Spirit, Pentecost and more! We talked about Easter through activities versus the book and I will revisit that chapter come spring:-)
And in between chapters the children performed a Good Samaritan play And a modern day Good Samaritan play as well!
We also got together with a fifth grade class to work on the Our Father prayer together And then we completed an activity using "resurrection eggs" which tells the story of Easter. They absolutely loved getting together with the fifth graders. And they were so wonderful working with them and the big kids were so kind and helpful! So we may plan another activity this week to do together again!
Today some of the kids were hungry before lunch. So I told them they could have a snack from their lunch.
So tomorrow, if you want to pack a separate snack for them in the front pouch of their bag, that would be great! If not, they can just get a little something out of their lunch if they're hungry.
Have a great night!
I look forward to seeing the kids in the morning!

Good evening!
We had another busy, fun day!!
First thing in the morning, we got together with our fifth grade buddies and watched a ten minute video about Saint Bernadette... We talked about how she forgave people who were mean to her and how she wanted to honor Mary. Afterwards, the fifth graders and the first graders made acrostic poems with the word Penance and then they shared with the class!
Next we covered baptism today and the children baptized a "baby" doll! They each got to be either a priest, godparent or a parent... And we used a candle and a white garment from my children's baptisms!
****I took some pictures of the baptism. If any of you did not want your child's picture shared within the group, I will not share them so just let me know! ****
We also identified special items in our church in our textbook and then we walked over with the other first grade to our church and did a scavenger hunt to find and name various parts of our church!! When we returned the children colored in a stained-glass cross!
I told the kids for "homework" They can ask you about their baptism!! Maybe show them a picture from it!! I had brought in a picture of my family at my youngest's Christening!
Have a great night!!
See you in the morning,
Michele Salter

Good Evening!!
We had another wonderful day and I cannot believe how fast the week has flown by!!
When the students arrived, they created stain-glass crowns, which I'm sure you saw when you picked up! It was their idea to make them into crowns and they said they want to spread the Good news of Jesus!
Today we covered The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation as well as the Sacrament of Eucharist. They made an adorable "'Bee' Forgiving" craft and they all did such a great job with their creativity!!
We also covered two chapters about Mass and Ms. Dot and I Assembled a mass booklet from their textbook. They will be bringing this home tomorrow and they will use it at the end of class when we go to mass. It is a great tool to bring if you go as a family to church because it walks them through the sequence of the mass!
They also did a craft with a sheep and cotton balls! We talked about how "Jesus is Our Shepherd"! Ask them about it!
Our fifth grade buddies came after lunch to help the students complete the Glory Be and the Hail Mary on a paper. Included on there was the prayer to their guardian angels as well.
I encourage the children this summer to practice the Hail Mary, Our Father, Glory Be and Grace before Meals each day/night!! They're excited about it!!
Have a wonderful night!
Ms. Dot and I have enjoyed this week so much!!
See you tomorrow!

Ps be on the lookout tomorrow for the Saint project that will be due our first Sunday in September! It is not stressful. It is fun. The kids will love it. You can just give them a hand with their research! Haha!

We did it! What an amazing week!!! Thank you for sharing your sweet, precious children!!! They are an absolute JOY!
For our last day the children colored a picture of the verse, "Let the children come to me," which we talked about this week! Jesus wanted the children to come to him when he was teaching!
Afterward, the children created the most beautiful cards for Ms. Dot who helped us the majority of the week! The children and I loved having her there to help me and all of the kids! She came later this afternoon and each child read their card to her. It was very sweet!
We had our Kids' Talk this morning and the other first grade joined us! In your child's folder, you will see a letter about the safe environment lesson as well as a paper that had faces that the children drew on to discuss our feelings and what to do when we felt sad or angry. We talked about trusted adults! And we created a passport that lists three trusted adults. We talked about our instincts or our "gut feelings" and that if something didn't feel right in their tummy that they are to tell a trusted adult... And if that adult doesn't listen go to another. Please take a look at the passport and talk with your children about this lesson to follow up.
Afterward, we went into the other first grade's classroom and watched two
videos (5 min and 2 min) about Mary and then one about Saint Bernadette again! We talked about the Saint project which is also in their folder! Please put that somewhere safe because that will be due September 7 when we see you next!! This is a fun project for grandparents to do with your child as well!! A few of the students had said they were going to their grandparents for a weekend and I said bring your Saint project. They might love to help!
Afterward we visited our fifth grade buddies for the last time this week and we made our friendship bracelets that included religious words! This was a great way to end our time with our buddies!
Lastly, we went over a chapter labeled God's Love! The children went to mass at the end as you know, and some of them really followed along with our Mass Book that we got from the back of the book! Again, I encourage you to bring that to church with you so they understand the sequence of the mass!
Have a safe, wonderful summer I will see the children in September with their Saint project, book, schoolbag and supplies!!
Lastly, Ms. Dot and I gave them some goodies so make sure you check their bag. They have new clay, a notebook, pencils glue, and they brought their used clay home so make sure you take that out so it doesn't stick to their bag! Haha!
Thank you!!!
