Macdalah Fry

Hi my name is Macdalah and I've been in ArtQuest for 1yr doing AP Studio Art. I focus primarily on painting, oil paints, but I'm trying to branch out and try new materials. I am submitting a 2D portfolio.

My SI revolves around the Black Lives Matter Movement. I wanted to emphasize the way black people see the world based on the racial divide that affects them constantly, a type of heaven and hell. Through many of my art pieces, I reflect this idea by using police brutality as the base of the concept.

This is a series I'm working on with flowers covering the eyes. It's showing the way society blinds you from the truth of injustices and flaws in the system.

For this painting, I wanted to reflect on the changes I felt throughout quarentine. I decided to leave the eyes as if they are missing or closed because even though I know the world isn’t right, I feel as though I still know anything. Heaven seems further away and my innocence is deteriorating because of what I see in the news. I feel like before I’ve purposely chosen to ignore these things but because of the pandemic there’s not much else to see but what’s happening around the country and so I've decided to emphasize that in my art.
