Peace of Art Parent-Child Alcohol Ink Art Workshop
Our Principal, Ms. Cheung, teachers and families of thirteen Form 1 to Form 5 students participated in the Peace of Art Parent-Child Alcohol Ink Art Workshop on 8 July 2023. During the workshop, the art tutor demonstrated the fluid art techniques to the participants and instructed them to create their unique fluid art vacuum flask. The participants enjoyed the relaxing and refreshing moments and expressed interest in taking part in similar activities in the future.Â

Designing Smart Gadgets Using Micro:bit
On 17 June 2023, ten families participated in the Parent-Child STEAM Workshop which provided an opportunity for beginners to learn basic programming skills from scratch. Mr. L. Pang, the head of our school’s STEAM Education Team, demonstrated to the participants how to code the BBC micro:bit and invited families to design their own smart gadgets. Through this programme, families knew more about programming and had a great time working as a team to come up with a creative design and to present it to the other participants.
After the workshop, parents had a guided school tour around the campus and visited our school’s STEAM Room, Quantum Lab, CMCAP Room, the school garden as well as the IoT Farming Machine in the Cookery Room.

Parent-Child STEAM Workshop
A Parent-Child STEAM Workshop on soldering sound-controlled LED badges was held on 26 November 2022. Twenty families participated in the programme which was jointly organized by the STEAM Education Team and the Parent-Teacher Association. The programme, aimed to teach practical soldering skills to beginners, provided an opportunity for family members to work collaboratively.
In the programme, the teacher and student helpers briefly explained the principles behind the sound-activated gadgets, followed by a demonstration of the soldering techniques. Families showed a great interest in completing the tasks and shared their ideas on how the products can be utilized in daily life. After the workshop, parents had a guided school tour and learned more about the school life of the students.

Third Workshop of Grow Something - Open Area Organic Farming Reduces Carbon Emission
The third workshop of the Grow Something STEAM project was held on 18 December 2021. This time, parents and students harvested their crops of Indian Lettuce that they grew in the first workshop. All the crops looked fresh and healthy. The local crops need no transportation and hence reduce carbon emission.The participants were excited to take their crops home and see how they taste!
Miss Agnes Yeung, the staff from Grow Something was the tutor of the workshop and she demonstrated the method of manuring to the participants. The manure provides nutrients for their vegetables to help them grow better. The participants also put some seeds of strawberries, scallion, eggplants and lisianthus flowers into the soil. We were all looking forward to witnessing the germination process.Â

Parent-Child STEAM Workshop - Microsoft PowerApp with AI Builder
On 18 December 2021, the Parent-Teacher Association and the STEAM Education Team organized a Parent-Child STEAM Workshop for junior form students and their parents. The topic of the workshop is Microsoft PowerApp with AI Builder. 14 families participated in the workshop and acquired some basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence, its application in daily life and career prospects of this new IT field.
Mr. Jimmy Hui, the Technology Director of Coding 101 was the host of the workshop and he introduced the functions of Microsoft PowerApp to all participants. Parents and students tried to use the App to identify various types of fruit with the help of the AI Builder. The AI Builder learned the appearance and features of various fruits by students' input of the fruit photos and the respective information.
After the automatic training process, the app succeeded in recognizing the types of fruits included in the sample photos. This technology is useful in many aspects, such as face recognition and number counting.

Second Workshop of Grow Something - Open Area Organic Farming Reduces Carbon Emission
The second workshop of the Grow Something STEAM project was held on 4 Dec 2021. In the Open Area Organic Farming workshop, Miss Agnes Yeung, the staff from Grow Something introduced different harvest skills as well as how various nutrients help with the growth of plants. In the previous workshop, parents and students tried to cultivate the young plants of Bok Choy, Indian Lettuce, tomatoes and turnips in our school platform garden. Under the attentive care taken by students, the Bok Choy was ready for harvest. Moreover, participants also acquired plant caring skills and they made use of the skills to prune leaves and install bamboo branches in order to aid the plants to grow better.
Parents and students brought their crops back home and tried to design a delicious dish with the Bok Choy they had harvested. They also shared the photos of their products with the other participants to share their happiness.

First Workshop of Grow Something - Open Area Organic Farming Reduces Carbon Emission
Three groups of Form 4 students attended the first workshop of the Grow Something STEAM project on 13 November 2021. To promote STEAM education to parents, the STEAM Education Team and Parent-Teacher Association also invited six families to join this event. The theme of the workshop was Platform Garden Farming. The workshop started with a mini lecture on the topic of organic farming, which was conducted by Miss Agnes Yeung, the Managing Director of the Grow Something Company.
During the lecture, Agnes explained the features of organic farming, factors that determine the growth of plants and the advantages of urban farming to all parents and students. The participants had an opportunity to grow vegetables in the school by themselves. This time, they decided to grow Chinese cabbage, romaine, turnips and tomatoes. Students were responsible for taking care of their own plants by watering and fertilizing the plants as well as taking record of their growth.
This workshop provided a memorable moment for all participants to conduct farming with their parents and classmates cooperatively. We are looking forward to seeing the first crop!Â

Parent-Child STEAM Laser Cutter Workshop
The fourth Parent-Child STEAM workshop of this year was successfully conducted on 28 Aug 2021. This time, the participants had the opportunity to design their own keyrings by using Adobe Illustrator and laser cutting technology.
An introduction session on the basic functions of Adobe Illustrator was given to all participants at the beginning of the workshop. After that, they applied the skills to design and create their own creative keyrings with the use of the laser cutter. There were some materials for the participants to choose from to create their unique key rings, such as acrylic, wooden and mirror.
In the meantime, both parents and students were asked to write a greeting card to express their gratitude and commendation to one another. Through the workshop, the participants obtained the skills of 2D graphic design and the bonding between parents and child were also strengthened.Â

Parent-Child STEAM Coding Workshop
On 27 March 2021, the STEAM Education Team organized the Parent-Child STEAM Workshop for Form 2 and Form 3 students and their families. The participants explored different features and basic functions of the new BBC micro:bit V2. They designed amazing sports gadgets through coding the Micro:bit board. They also had the opportunity to reuse old materials such as fabric, plastic bottle caps and lids, which were provided by the Visual Art Department and Home Economics Department, to design and decorate their products without producing unnecessary waste. The participants were given the opportunity to display and present their outstanding designs to one another.

After the workshop, parents and students had a tour to the new Chinese Mitten Crabs Aquaponics Project Room and STEAM Room of the school and learnt about the facilities in the rooms as well as the projects and activities which will be held in the future.Â

Parent-Child STEAM Pastel Nagomi Art Workshop
On 27 March 2021, the STEAM Education Team organized the Parent-Child STEAM Workshop for Form 1 students and their families. The participants used the Easter Egg as the main theme to create their own Pastel Nagomi Art products. They also had the opportunity to explore the features and basic functions of the HaloCode Board.
Pastel Nagomi Art is a form of healing art originated in Japan making use of pastels and fingers to create gentle transparent art through simple yet unique ways of painting techniques. It also has a therapeutic function to restore confidence and reduce stress of the participants.

Parent-Child STEAM Workshop
On 28 November 2020, sixteen Form 1 students and their parents participated in a Parent-Child STEAM Workshop jointly organized by the STEAM Education Team and the Parent-Teacher Association at the School Hall. The participants explored different features of the new BBC micro:bit v2 and designed creative products by programming and upcycling various old materials provided by the Visual Arts Department and the Home Economics Department.
The BBC micro:bit is a pocket-sized programmable computer. The micro:bit v2 is the latest version recently released with new features including an on-board speaker, a microphone with LED indicator and a touch sensitive logo.
After learning about the basic functions of the micro:bit v2, the students and their parents collaborated to design their own products using the single board computer together with the upcyclable materials, such as scrap fabric, unwanted textiles and plastic bottle caps and lids. The families happily presented their creative products, e.g. step counter, alarm, timer and compass in the sharing session.
It was a workshop full of inspiration and fun. The parents enjoyed the programming and process of product design with their daughters.

Parent-Child STEAM Workshop
The School STEM Education Team and the Parent-Teacher Association jointly organized a Parent-Child STEAM Workshop for Form 1 students and their parents on 19 October 2019. Thirty families participated in the workshop and designed creative products with the application of the sound controlled LED badge. The programme also included an introduction to the STEAM curriculum and the Quality Education Fund project, "Chinese Mitten Crab Aquaponics Project" and visit to the feeding room.
After assembling the LED badge, parents and students collaborated on making a STEAM product, applying various skills about Science, Visual Arts and Home Economics. Sample products were bottle shakers, gift cards, wind chimes, party lights and decorations.
Through the creative and fun activities, all the participants enjoyed a fruitful and joyous afternoon. Parents were glad to know more about students' school life and the development of STEM education in the School.
