What you need to know:
Students will have an opportunity to focus on the four strands of Arts Education 9: Visual Art, Drama, Dance and Music.
Visual Art: Students will be taught visual literacy and foundational art skills in focus areas that may include drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and print making, investigating curricular themes of “Personal Identity” and “Taking Action”
Drama: Students will become familiar with theatre as a result of an introduction to characterization, script work, improvisation and movement.
Dance: This is an active and energetic class that uses the theme of social action to introduce foundational dance techniques, choreography, and a variety of dance styles such as hip hop, jazz, lyrical, and cultural dance styles.
Music: Students will work with a wide range of quality repertoire in order to further develop instrumental technique, rhythmic competence, aural skills interpretive concepts, theory, and historical knowledge through the theme of "Taking Action".

Band 09 rehearses every other day and is a full year course.
Students will work to develop the following skills and musical components: technique, rhythm, aural skills, interpretive concepts, theory and historical knowledge.
Performances that are a part of the curriculum will include: a fall concert, Saskatoon Music Festival, and spring concert at Walter Murray

What you need to know:
Open to Gr. 9, 10, 11, 12 students. No musical background required.
Through the rehearsal and performance of a wide variety of quality repertoire students focus on the fundamentals of choral singing by developing enhanced vocal technique, musical literacy, ear training and listening skills.
Performances may include evening concerts, music festivals, an optional overnight choir trip, and other community performances. Participation at festivals and public concerts is expected from the students.
This class can be taken as an eleventh class at 7:45 am on alternating days all year.

enriched opportunities can be experienced within the context of the regular classroom; teachers will assess students’ needs for adaptation of the course

What you need to know:
This is an introductory course, which gives students the opportunity to develop basic skills for independent living through the areas of food, clothing and design.
During the food component students will learn basic and safe use of kitchen equipment and cooking techniques while preparing a variety of foods such as cookies, quick breads, snacks and small meals.
Clothing will introduce the students to the basics of hand sewing through the construction of a stuffed monster. Students will also learn to operate a sewing machine and apply basic sewing techniques by making a bag and boxers/pj pants.
Throughout the design unit students will learn the basic elements and principles of design and how to apply them.
In addition to the course fee students will need to pay for sewing projects. Sewing project fees will be collected by the classroom teacher.

covers square roots, surface area, exponents, rational numbers, polynomials, linear equations, inequalities, graphing linear equations, scale diagrams, circle geometry, and probability
As required by the ministry 50 hours of middle years Practical and Applied Arts is integrated into this course. There is a great variety of Practical and Applied Arts curriculum that teachers can choose to integrate into the course.
Math 9+ is designed for students with large gaps in prior math instruction. Students are refered for this program. If a student was not recommended but stuggles in MTH09 a family may be approached about changing into the math 9 plus course if learning gaps are the reason for a lack of success. Students do not complete the Commerce and Computer Applications outcomes but will receive an additional 45 hours of math instruction.

In each semester, students will pair PE with Career Education and Health on a Day 1/Day 2 schedule.
Career Education helps students build positive self-image and use career information to begin development of a life and work plan that is individualized to their abilities and desires.
Health focuses on holistic development and strategies to make healthy decisions related to safety, infection/disease, relationships, food choices, addictions, grief/loss, chronic illness and sexual health.
Band (PED09-N) students follow a Day 1/Day 2 schedule that alternates Band and PE. Health Education and Career Education are scheduled as a stand-alone class (HEA09B).
Regular PE is offered as male-only (PHM09), female-only (PHF09) or all-gender (PED09).

Technology 09 (Tech09)
Students in this course will have the opportunity to explore a variety of industrial technology areas. Each area will be 22 days in duration.
MACHINING: Students will learn how to work safely and with a high degree of precision. They will use hand tools, metal lathes, and a bandsaw to build a spinning top project.
DRAFTING: The drafting component covers technical drawing in both 2D and 3D environments. Upon completion of this section, students will have learned basic techniques and terminology.
CONSTRUCTION AND CARPENTRY: Students will learn how to use common woodworking tools and techniques safely and accurately. They will build a wooden truck.
ELECTRONICS: Students will learn the basic functions and usage of electronic devices, practice building simple circuits, and develop an understanding of how to build a basic robot line follower
