FAQ

What age can I register my child for judo?

Children begin classes at 5 years old at Team Judo Kai. If you have questions about your child's readiness, ask the Sensei for further information.

When is registration?

Registration is ongoing throughout the year. Please see the 'Classes and Fees' section for more information.

What will I learn in a judo class?

First, you will learn to fall safely (an invaluable lesson in itself). Judokas also spend time developing fitness including cardiovascular and strength. Classes are also spent learning basic throws and grappling techniques. In Judo, many of the same moves are practiced frequently.

Can I get hurt?

Sports injuries can happen in judo, much like other sports, however they are no more unusual. Judo means the ‘gentle way’. Judokas are taught to restrain with minimum risk of injury, and with safety in mind.

What can I expect in class?

Judo is a sport that can not be practiced and perfected without a partner. For this reason, the values of our sport are expected to become part of the participant’s behavior both on and off the mat. The values are:

  • playing by the rules;
  • co-operating with others;
  • respecting self and others;
  • self-discipline and humility;
  • self-confidence and commitment;
  • perseverance and determination;
  • concentrating and controlling emotions
