This past Saturday, Dartmouth Judo Kai participated in our very first tournament as a club! It was a first time experience for almost all of our athletes, and my first time coaching. There was lots of excitement and a few nerves, but I think everyone had a great time and are hungry to get back out there and do it again. I know we definitely saw some really good judo!
The coaches couldn't be more proud of our team's performance on the mats. Win or lose, first tournament or not, each athlete showed a lot of toughness, determination, courage and class.
We had athletes competing in multiple groups across two mat surfaces so things were pretty hectic, here's a quick summary of who competed where:
Jordan Heath and Ryan Kawaja competed against each other in a group with some kids from another local club.
Morgan Oickle lined up with a few locals and an athlete from the Valley.
Brent Morrison competed against a group of kids that included a Spryfield teammate.
Max Mylnikov competed with a group of kids from all over Nova Scotia.
Sam Wand, Teo Martins and Claire Oickle each competed in their own division, once again with athletes from across Nova Scotia.
Bridget Wand was our only athlete competing in the U14 age group, with longer matches and stricter rules (and it was her first tourney too!)
