This is always a fun event, and everyone had a great time. Thank you Bridgewater Judo!
Spryfield Judo Kai was represented by 18 fighters, 2 coaches and 3 referees. As always we want to thank the folks who volunteer to referee and staff tables, etc.
It was a fast day, with lots of exciting fights. Under the SJK banner in the LTAD group were Livie Thoms (not Thomas), Bowen Cranston, Piper Parker, Sophia Macdougal, and Jackson MacMillan. Unfortunately John Wheeliker was out with an unrelated sore foot. With a fun hour of games and randori, they got to test their skills against new friends. Great job guys!
First time fighter Maggie Parker was a ferocious competitor! Now that she has a hard earned BRONZE around her neck, her next goal is clear!
Bazyl Burns-Bahadur was on fire all day, tearing through his competition with speed and precision straight to GOLD.
Ella Thoms (not Thomas) won every fight with an impressive array of skills. Ella showed what keeping your cool and listening to your coach can do. GOLD
Fraser Lake was another first timer to the tournament scene and he was a bit nervous. That all seems to melt away once the fight started though. Faced with very experienced opponents he took the fight to them and gave it all. Hard work and a well earned BRONZE
Issac Fillmore came out like a lion, throwing his opponents all over the mat. After a very tough battle with Logan, he won BRONZE.
Logan Wheeliker brought his usual high energy to the mats, and was a part of the most exciting fight of the day, more on that later. SILVER for Logan
Kandace Verge was in a mixed division with a couple of tough fighters. Winning a nice fight against a tough girl earned her SILVER!
Sophie Lake brought her huge smile and sense of humour and kept everyone light and relaxed. At Hajime however she was all business. Getting a bit tangled when she tried her trademark yamarashi, She came away with a BRONZE, and still smiling.
Rachel Lake was quiet throughout the day, and brought her calm to her fights. Although it was hard to get the sisters to stop laughing when they faced each other...SILVER for Rachel
Connor Kavanaugh came out of retirement like a pro. Calm throughout, his deceptive strength and solid technique surprised his opponents, after losing a couple of very close fights, and some nice wins, Connor wore SILVER around his neck.
Jared Fredericks had a great day, watching him and his opponents move so fast was just great!.. Nice BRONZE win!
Chris Cormier face a familiar opponent and showed him what we've been working on, with his trademark energy and fierce fighting! GOLD for Chris!
Evan Eastabrooks was very recently graded to green belt (field promotion lol). This allowed Evan to use submissions and he ran with it! Attempting at least one shimewaza on every single opponent, Evan choked and threw his was to SILVER.
FIGHT OF THE DAY
As some of you may recall, at the last tournament Logan and Isaac faced each other with Isaac coming away with the win. Well, Logan came back! These guys are friends, it's true, but they are also warriors, and they brought all they had to the mats. A furious battle ensued and after the smoke cleared, the match went to....Logan. Well fought gentlemen. Ouss.
Coaches notes;
Thanks Abbi for your awesome coaching! Not sure how many you sat in the chair for, I think 3 different clubs? It seemed like there was a lineup for your autograph. You sure had a busy day!
Visit our website gallery for videos and such, it's pretty cool!
As always we are incredibly proud of each and every one of our fighters. Remember, your bravery, kindness and amazing attitude not only represent yourselves, but your club, and your community.
See you on the Mats
