2017 Amherst Invitational Spryfield Judo Kai Coaches Report
This past Sunday marked the 2017 Amherst Invitational Judo tournament. This was an exceptionally smooth running tournament and congratulations go out to the organizers on a job well done.
Spryfield Judo Kai presented 6 athletes at this event and all performed very well, with all landing on the podium! A huge thanks to Abby for coming out just to coach, we really appreciate your help.
This marks the last tournament of the regular 2017 season for most of us, however we will not be stopping over the summer!
Speaking for myself and our Board of Directors, we can't begin to say how proud we are of all our members, competitive, or recreational. This is exactly what we had in mind when we envisioned our club and we are looking forward to more success in the future!
2017 Bridgewater Judo Tournament Coach's Report
Another very strong showing by SJK athletes in Bridgewater, N.S. With 15 fighters participating. This was a developmental tournament, meaning, as a relatively small event it was to be considered a training opportunity. I have taken notes on each fighter's performance and have identified some great opportunities to have us all improve.
LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) Kids had a great time on the mats and got to show off some of their favourite moves! A ton of fun to watch!
The memory of the day for me and many others was when Ella and Deja faced off. It was clear as soon as they started that they were there to win and they went full out! At the end the friends shared a beautiful hug that, to me, is the very essence of what Judo is supposed to be.
See you on the mats

Overall this was an amazing performance for such a young club and I am truly humbled and proud to see you face walking out on the mats with courage, eagerness, and real team spirit.
Over and over I saw families banding together, watching, feeding or hugging each other's kids, even helping to fix a truck! This is the kind of family atmosphere we were hoping to achieve when we started our club, and this weekend proved that we're on the right track.
Looking forward to the next event.
