AMY FULK
Special Education Teacher
specializing in Low Incident Disabilities
(LID)
My name is Amy Fulk and I am a Low Incidence Disability teacher in the special education department. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and I earned a Master of Arts degree in Education at Ashford University. My husband and I have two grown children. My hobbies are reading and enjoying the sunshine. I enjoy learning and instructing students with all capabilities and abilities. I believe all children should have the opportunity to learn and grow into successful adults.
My name is Lisa A. Perez and I have taught in Early Childhood general education classrooms for the past 15 years. Last summer I received my Special EC-12 certification, so I have been a LID teacher at Gallardo Elementary since last year.
Last year I decided to pursue my master in Special Education with a supplement in visual impairment because 12 years ago, I gave birth to a son that on appearance seemed to look like a normal child. Teaching my son and other students diagnosed with diabilites have helped me realize that I have a strong desire to help those in need of extra support. I truly believe that all students can learn no matter their ability level. My own personal experience has given me the inspiration and confidence to connect with students by using techniques and equipment that can assist them to learn to the best of their ability. Teaching visually impaired students requires additional explanation of the visuals being presented, always giving oral instructions, providing tactile learning experiences, and allowing for additional time to complete work. I feel that I was given this challenge of raising a visually impaired child with multiple disabilities for a particular reason. That reason so that I can provide those families in my circumstances the necessary assistance and resources needed to feel hopeful. It is important for families to know that with support their child can bercome a strong member of their home and community. This new learning can lead to not only help others with my new knowledge and skills but it will also help my son for the rest of his life.
