Many tools in the design lab pose risks to safety, it is very important to ensure that you follow proper safety protocols to avoid injury to yourself or others. If you're ever in doubt about how to use a tool, please ask for help! It is always ok to ask for more guidance, you should never operate hazardous equipment or handle hazardous materials if you aren't sure of the safety procedures and proper use for that tool.
The fire extinguisher is located to the left of the entryway to the back room as you walk in.

The following symbols are used throughout the following pages and in the design lab to indicate various risks related to the design tools.
The symbol shown to the left indicates that there is a risk of burns due to hot surfaces. When you see this symbol next to a piece of equipment, make sure you do not touch it while it is hot.
The symbol shown to the left indicates that a tool is flammable. When you see this symbol next to a piece of equipment, make sure that you monitor the equipment while it is running, and ensure you know where the fire extinguishers are located before using it.
The image shown to the left indicates that there is a risk of cutting due to sharp blades. When you see this symbol next to a piece of equipment, handle with extreme care.
The symbol shown to the left indicates that a material is toxic. Safety measures vary depending on the toxicity of the material, ensure that you know the required safety precautions when working with the specific toxic material you will be handling. Safety measures could include wearing disposable gloves, washing your hands after working with the material, working in a well-ventilated area, using a respirator, or avoiding touching your face or skin while handling the material.
