There is no nap time in kindergarten. Phase out regular naps and adjust bed time accordingly.
Give lots of opportunities for fine-motor development. Practice with items such as crayons, pencils, markers, scissors, play dough and Lego is very important to fine-motor development.
We encourage students to practice printing and recognizing their name, as they will see it many times in the Kindergarten room.
Being familiar with letters and numbers would be a great start to the year.
Give opportunities for your child to socialize with children around the same age before school begins. We encourage students to have lots of experience with sharing and turn-taking before coming to school. It is also important for students to experience not always being the winner.
Practise eating out of the lunch bag. Have your child open, use, and close their lunch bag independently.
Students need to be independent in the bathroom. Practice how to use the toilet and wash hands appropriately. Staff are unable to go in the bathroom with students.
It is very important that students experience times in the care of an adult other than family members. Don’t let the first day of school be the first time that your child has the experience of being with an adult other than their parents, grandparents or babysitters.
Part of our Catholic faith is visiting church. We are blessed to have St. Paul's church right next door and we visit for mass throughout the school year to celebrate as a school community. Visit the church as a family. Become comfortable with the environment so church is not a new place for your child the first time we visit.
For the first day of school your child will need a pair of indoor shoes that are labeled, spear clothing which are labeled, and a backpack big enough to fit a binder which is labeled.

In the beginning of the school year your child may go through a transition period. Kindergarten is very much exciting with new friends and toys. If your child comes home tired, cranky, not themselves, know it is because they gave us their best during the day and you are getting the rest at night. Rest assured this is temporary.
