This week you will read: CH 6 & 7 (22 pp)
In the textbox -- or in a Google Doc where you are keeping your reading reflections (on professional sources -- not on children's books), Craft 3-5 statements inspired by the book that capture your thinking about how Arts Integration can promote Literacy Learning. (If you want to share a quote from the book as one of your statements, add a brief commentary to explain why.)
In the Section: "Poets Of El Sol Avademy," The table discussing "Love (is as) Mysterious (as a) Moth" was particularly intriguing. It highlights the need for trust in the students and their creative process. This exercise encourages them to experiment with unconventional word pairings and embrace the potential for making mistakes within their work.
In the section: " Creating a Classroom Dialogue," it discusses the practice of initiating a quick write exercise for students, encouraging them to jot down their thoughts and engage in a discussion about their ideas. To facilitate this process, you can provide them with prompts related to artwork or music. While they are writing, you can guide their thought process by asking questions such as, "What do you see? Who is depicted in the artwork? How does the background contrast with the main elements?" Questions like these can prompt students to delve deeper into their thoughts and produce more extensive written responses.
In the section: "Helping students create a concept map," I didn't fully appreciate the complexity of creating lesson plans from a teacher's perspective. I used to dislike making them when I was growing up. However, I now understand that this process is a valuable means of gaining insight into students' challenges and their overall comprehension of the material. It also serves as a way to collect feedback on what they are learning from the book you are attempting to teach.
