Part Two--
It’s like your Praxis Declaration – but different. You will make a statement regarding your responsibility for curating books in your classroom (what kinds of books will you seek, and why), developing strategies for extending student experiences with these books (what will be the purpose for these extensions), and how this work will support your position regarding your role to use Literature and the Arts to work toward making the world the way it ought to be.
Types of books, do I want?
I believe it's crucial to curate a diverse book collection that explores a wide range of identities. it's essential to introduce literature that celebrates various identities and perspectives within the classroom. I'm enthusiastic about including books that encompass a variety of subjects, such as humor, gender, magic, science fiction, and others. Moreover, I'd like to incorporate non-fiction titles that align with the student's interests. If a child is fond of birds, why not add a few books on birds? Or if a child is talking a lot about planes, why not add something on the shelves for them?
My goal is to provide children with a diverse selection of contemporary books that reflect the modern world and promote a better understanding of it. I prefer to focus on present-day works and avoid older books because some of them convey messages that I find objectionable. However, I do appreciate the significance of historical books, especially when they pertain to events that affected the whole world, or place they live in.
In my view, not every book on the list needs to have a profound purpose; I believe that books that make students laugh or tell engaging stories should also find a place on the shelves in my classroom. These books can spark creative thinking and provoke deep reflections about the world around them. Books like, the Harry Potter series, the diary of wimpy kid books, or Bad Cat are all fun to read and can spark deep thinking and creative thinking.
In the realm of education, I believe it's crucial to curate a diverse book collection that explores a wide range of identities, celebrates various perspectives, and reflects the modern world. My goal is to provide children with a diverse selection of contemporary books that not only promote a better understanding of the world but also foster creative thinking. Just as I advocate for Holistic Literacy, which encompasses traditional reading and writing skills along with visual literacy and digital literacy, I also believe in embracing Multimodality. This involves understanding how various modes of communication interact and shape meaning in our intricate, multimodal communication landscape.
