Simplified Notation

Goal: To begin to recognize how tonal and rhythm patterns can be shown visually through music notation

Activities we have been doing:

• Swat the Pattern - a game using flyswatters to match visual to audio

• Tonal Boxes - a visual/aural/tangible approach to tonal patterns taught similarly to phonics

• Poison Tonal Pattern - Echo the patterns, but not the one written on the board!

• Pattern Blending - Blend two short written patterns into one longer one.

• Guess that Tune - Starting with 2 notes and adding more, can you recognize the music hook?
