Tonal Pre-Assessment


Goal: To help Sr. Davis understand what aural and tonal understandings students currently have. To be done again at the end of the year.


Skills assessed:

  • Pitch Matching - do the pitches match or not?

  • Major or Minor - is the pattern in a major or minor tonality?

  • Steps or Leaps - did the pattern use all stepwise motion, or include leaps (skipping over) pitches?

  • Translating Music Patterns - can students translate an aural pattern into solfege?

  • Simple Rhythms - can students transcribe a simple rhythm into notation?
