Intro to Solfege and Tonal Patterns


Goal: To become familiar with the "music alphabet" and how pitches can go up, down, or stay monotone to create different musical patterns.


Activities we have been doing:

  • Solfege Hopping - like hopscotch, but with singing and jumping on solfege carpet squares

  • Tonal Boxes - a visual/aural/tangible approach to tonal patterns taught similarly to phonics

  • Pitch Matching - singing the same pitch as the drone

  • Echo Singing - repeat back what you heard with the correct pitch and solfege

  • Pattern Blending - can you sing two small patterns together into one larger one?
