Rhythmic Development

Current Music Project

Rhythm Patterns & Feeling the Beat

Goal: To use multiple senses, but especially movement, to become aware of rhythmic feeling, tempo, and duple vs. triple.

Games we have been playing:

  • Rhythm Telephone - pass the pattern down the line

  • Poison Rhythm - echo back the rhythms, but careful not to echo the poison rhythm

  • Silly Sounds Rhythms - echo back rhythms, but students pick silly sounds to use

  • Rhythm Endurance - how long can you play the ostinato? Up to 2 minutes?!?

  • Duple / Triple Game - march or sway around the room depending on the type of beat

  • Feel the Beat Video Game - play along with the video as the notes come toward you
