NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (NCAA) is a non-profit organization which regulates athletes of 1,281 institutions, conferences & individuals. their mission says that "athletic contests reflect the dignity & high purpose of education". THE NAIA is the National association of intercollegiate athletes.
Becoming a college student-athlete requires dedication & commitment, and much like college admissions requirements, there are steps you should take in high school to ensure your success! If you are unsure where you will attend yet, it would be best to satisfy the most rigorous set of requirements (NCAA – Division I) as this will keep your options open!

The California Community College Athletic Association playing at the next level is within your reach! If your post high school plans begin at a community college and you want to play sports be sure to do your research and find out which schools have your sport CCCAA
Each association and division maintains different initial-eligibility requirements and standards so it is important to be familiar with the one where you will be competing. If you are unsure where you will attend yet, it would be best to satisfy the most rigorous set of requirements (NCAA – Division I) as this will keep your options open for the most opportunities.
Please consult with your school counselor to be preliminarily evaluated on your progress for NCAA initial-eligibility academic requirements (Core Courses, GPA, test scores, etc.).
RECOMMENDED HIGH SCHOOL TIMELINE
Grade 9
Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center and/or NAIA Eligibility Center
Complete the NCAA free Profile Page account
Review the Division I and II initial-eligibility academic requirements
Division III schools set their own admissions and eligibility standards. Contact the Division III school you are planning to attend or visit, www.ncaa.org/d3, to learn more.
For NAIA schools, you must be admitted to the institution under admission standards equal to or higher than those applied to the general student body.

Grade 10
If you are being actively recruited by an NCAA Division I or II school and have a Profile Page account, transition it to a paid Certification account
At the end of the school year, send an official transcript from each high school attended to your NCAA / NAIA Eligibility Center account. Students should send in transcripts on their own through the high school registrar.
Complete the Transcript Request Form if you would like SLOHS to share your unofficial transcript with interested coaches/schools.
Grade 11
Review your NCAA eligibility progress with your school counselor
If you take the SAT/ACT, submit your scores to the NCAA (9999) and/or NAIA (9876)
Ensure your sports participation information is correct in your NCAA/NAIA Eligibility Center account
Confirm that all official transcripts from each high school attended have been sent to your NCAA/NAIA Eligibility Center accounts, including 9th, 10th and 11th grade
Grade 12
Request your final NCAA amateurism certification beginning April 1 (fall enrollees) or October 1 (winter/spring enrollees)
After you graduate, send your final high school official transcript to your NCAA/NAIA accounts. Be sure to confirm that official transcripts have been sent from all high schools attended.

IJanuary 2023, NCAA Divisions I and II adopted legislation to remove standardized test scores from initial-eligibility requirements for all student-athletes who initially enroll full time on or after August 1, 2023. Check with the NCAA school you plan to attend regarding whether standardized test scores are necessary for admission or scholarship requirements.

This worksheet is provided to assist you in monitoring your progress in meeting NCAA initial-eligibility standards. The NCAA Eligibility Center will determine your academic status after you graduate. Remember to check your high school's list of NCAA-approved courses for the classes you have taken.
Use the following scale: A = 4 quality points; B = 3 quality points; C = 2 quality points; D = 1 quality point
Core-Course GPA (16 required) Beginning August 1, 2016, 10 core courses must be completed before the seventh semester and seven of the 10 must be a combination of English, math or natural or physical science for competition purposes. Grades and credits may be earned at any time for academic redshirt purposes.

Every year graduates from SLOHS go on to play college sports. Almost all universities also offer club and intramural sports teams
College Athletic Scholarship Limits 2022-23:
College Athletic Associations set the maximum number of athletic scholarships their member schools can award to student athletes for official sports. Teams can elect to award fewer – or none – a well. These are the annual limits per team for the 2022-23 athletic year:
