WOW Sardines

Zamboanga City is not only rich in culture, tradition and customs, it is also rich in marine life and considered as the sardines capital of the country, with 80 percent of the produced canned sardines in the country is manufactured.

Thus, the biggest sardine eating event was staged worthy to compete the Guinness World of Record. The sardine boodle fight is one of the most awaited events in Hermosa festival. It is being held along the RT Lim Boulevard where thousands of people are participating in the eating binge. It covers almost one-kilometer stretch of R.T Lim Boulevard bay-side with the backdrop of the pristine sea channel of Cawa- Cawa and Sta. Cruz Islands.

The event has many sponsors like Gold Star Seafoods, Universal Canning Inc., Mega Fishing Corporation, Asahi Foods Manufacturing Inc., PERMEX. Pacific Food Inc., Nature’s Spring and Robina Corporation for the Magic Flakes crackers. So far, Zamboanga City holds the title of the longest sardines’ boodle fight in the world and aiming for title of the longest ‘’boodle fight” in the world. The said event drew thousands of participants that feasted on close to 15,000 cans of sardines.
