Zamboangueños annually celebrate the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival in October. Given the significance of the festival to each and every Zamboangueños; it is the most grandiose event of the year. Government officials and other coordinators put in all their efforts in the preparation of every activity in the festival; so to meet its called-for success: And one of the highlighted affairs in the said celebration is Cosechas de Zamboanga.
Cosechas is a chavacano word which means harvest; so if you piece them altogether, you'll know that Cosechas de Zamboanga means The Harvest of Zamboanga. Cosechas de Zamboanga or The Agri-trade Fair, which is annually held at the Plaza Pershing, is an event that goals to showcase the different agricultural crops and products of the Zamboangueños. The products that are displayed include ornamental plants, flowers, fruits, vegetables and many other delicacies. There are also planting materials, landscape products as well as Agri-fishery products.
Usually, there are 28 participating farm organizations; every one with his own line of quality products. Last year’s Cosechas de Zamboanga highlighted organic and agricultural products; ones which are not hazardous to humans’ health. Considering that these products are indeed organic, it is expected that they are environment-friendly and are free from harmful fertilizers or pesticides.
The Harvest of Zamboanga aims to provide an avenue for the local farmers from the six agricultural districts; namely, Tumaga District, Ayala District, Culianan District, Manicahan District, Curuan District, and Vitali District; to promote their respective products. Cosechas de Zamboanga, by its name, mainly focuses on the city's agricultural crops and products.
